The digits in birds consist of three in the wing, adapted for flight, and typically four in the foot, specialized for perching, grasping, or locomotion.

The Adélie penguin (Pygoscelis adeliae), is distinguished by its black-and-white plumage, white eye rings, and strong swimming abilities, often seen darting through icy waters in search of krill.
